This kind of story is typically more subtle than modern horror, yet there are plenty of delicious shivers to be enjoyed. It is a a niche market for readers seeking books off the beaten track. The books introduced here are lovingly published by the interesting small press Ash-Tree and are good modern examples of the genre, nicely crafted by the authors Paul Finch (Walkers in the Dark), Steve Duffy (Tragic Life Stories), Simon Kurt Unsworth (Lost Places) and Lawrence C.
