book review format Who doesn’t know the classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his spectral Christmas Eve dreams? Renowned director Robert Zemeckis (Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Forrest Gump, Contact, Castaway, The Polar Express, Beowulf) has applied his signature stamp to this beloved tale, and will be sharing it with audiences on November 6, 2009–just in time for the holidays. This sumptuous hybrid Making of/Art of book will introduce readers to the world behind Zemeckis’s camera, revealing the secrets of performance-capture technology, and displaying its singular style in a deluxe, artistic format. Fans of Jim Carrey will delight in reading about his performance, not only as Mr. Bah Humbug himself, but also as the ghosts of Christmas past, present, AND future! This gorgeous book–containing gatefolds and a ribbon–is sure to be at the top of everyone’s Christmas list! With 156 pages fully illustrated, this hardcover book provides photos and scenes from the movie showing the locations in as great a splendor as the movie provides. Well-written and illustrated it brings the story of Scrooge to life. And along with the visual delight, you get written information about the movie and sets, and more. The concept art for this movie is created by production designer Doug Chiang and his group of artists at Image Movers Digital, a studio run by Robert Zemeckis and Disney specializing in performance capture and CGI. There are plenty of art on locations and cool architecture since Charles Dicken’s story was set in 1840s London. You’ll see sets like Big Ben clock tower, Scrooge’s English house, city streets and the other sets used in the animated film. There are also character designs, some miniatures, sculptures and 3D renderings. Not surprisingly, the 3D characters resemble their life voice actors, who are Jim Carrey (except for old Scrooge), Gary Oldman, Bob Hoskins, and Robin Wright Penn among others. Memory foam mattress topper If you are a 3D artist, enthusiast, or just love 3d movies, then you will really enjoy this book! It goes through the creative process of how sets and characters were created, as well as arriving at camera angle and set solutions throught practical means, though not getting deep into the the 3d and CG lingo that any reader wouldn’t understand. Plot: Charles Dickens’ timeless tale of an old miser who must face Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet-to-Come, as they help to bring kindness to his otherwise cold heart. The Ghosts remind him of the man he used to be, the hard truth of what the world is today, and what will happen if he does not strive to be a better man. Set around Christmas, the most joyous day of the year, Scrooge realizes the sharp contrast of his own personality. A Christmas Carol is a 2009 film written and directed by Robert Zemeckis. It is an adaptation of the Charles Dickens story of the same name and stars Jim Carrey in a multitude of roles, including Ebenezer Scrooge as a young, middle-aged, and old man, and the three ghosts who haunt Scrooge. The 3-D film was produced through the process of motion capture, a technique Zemeckis previously used in his films The Polar Express (2004) and Beowulf (2007). It received its world premiere in London, coinciding with the switching on of the annual Oxford Street and Regent Street Christmas lights, infant car seat covers which in 2009 had a Dickens theme. Charles John Huffam Dickens was an English novelist, generally considered the greatest of the Victorian period. Dickens enjoyed a wider popularity and fame than had any previous author during his lifetime, and he remains popular, having been responsible for some of English literature’s most iconic novels and characters. Jacob Marley is a fictional character who appears in Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella A Christmas Carol. book review examples The Art of Video Games book review. Classic Game Room reviews THE ART OF VIDEO GAMES: FROM PAC-MAN TO MASS EFFECT from Chris Melissinos and Patrick O’Rourke published by Welcome Books in 2012. Roger Ebert says video games can never be art, this book shows quite the opposite and cites examples and captures developer interviews to prove its point. As video games are embraced as a new emerging art form the Smithsonian American Art Museum holds an exhibit called The Art of Video Games exhibit. This book is written by Smithsonian curator Chris Melisinos and features examples of art in video games from the past 40 years. Marvel at the art and creative work that went into games like Combat, Space Invaders and Pitfall on the Atari 2600. Chris then compares the early examples to ’80s 8-bit classics such as The Legend of Zelda and 16-bit masterpieces like Phantasy Star IV. Modern releases like Bioshock, Minecraft and Mass Effect 2 complete the picture as developers earn bigger budgets and more advanced tools to complete their visions… but does it make better art? This hard cover book is a great addition to any gaming collection and makes a nice coffee table showpieces as well. Printed on glossy, high quality paper with great pictures and interviews you’ll dig The Art of Video Games the most.
